In the Bhagavata Purana, it is mentioned that the bhāva (devotion and intent) of the yajamāna is more important than physical presence.
The Gṛhya Sūtras state: “Yaḥ kṛtvā karmaṇām ārambhaṃ yajamānasya nimittam bhavati” – The one who performs rituals on behalf of the yajamāna ensures that the fruits reach the yajamāna directly.
Even in Mahābhārata Anuśāsana Parva, Bhishma emphasizes that “Shraddhā (faith) and Sankalpa (resolve) are the true carriers of merit, not mere presence.”
